Called hojalata, the Mexican art of tinwork blossomed during the colonial period. Tinplate was largely used to create religious items for churches and home altars. Tin is cut, crimped, stamped and notched to create a large variety of items. Our collection includes mirrors and boxes mixed with glazed tiles, as well as other ornaments. Tinplate is sturdy enough to be used for large objects and can withstand daily wear.
